The rise in breast cancer increases the number of patients being managed by physiotherapists. Rehabilitation post-op is focussed on shoulder girdle movement which can be limited due to patient apprehension or by adhesions and scarring or from superficial lymphatic thrombosis (lymphatic cords). These different symptoms are treatable and have good results.
Thanks to the modernisation of surgery the risk of lymphedema is lower but cannot be completely ruled out. Intensive treatment over a period of 2 weeks can be very effective. Manual lymphatic drainage and current bandages are simpler to use and are effective.
